A recent study of the effect of the $15 minimum wage in Seattle came to the conclusion that it ended up making the average minimum wage worker $125 per month worse off than (s)he was before, due to cutbacks in hours, layoffs, etc. Some other repercussions, such as Jack in the Box is now requiring all new stores and remodels to eliminate the front counter and replace it with a kiosk for ordering, thereby eliminating the order-takers jobs. The march toward automation continues.
The Seattle City Council has never received any awards for foresight.
