We had a guy show up at a yard sale we held once.

I had a pickup in that sale. Guy bought the pickup and lots of

other stuff including a hot tub. Several thousand dollars worth.

Paid in cash for all of it on the spot. He loaded some of it in the

pickup and drove it home, leaving his souped up Jeep here.

Keys in it so we could move it if we needed to do so.

Two weeks later the Jeep was still here and he hadn't returned

so I took the money to the bank to see if it was counterfeit.

Was also thinking the Jeep might be stolen. Turned out the money

was fine and the Jeep wasn't stolen, but its always a possibility.

To finish the story, he picked up his Jeep a month after the yard sale.

He never did come back and pick up the hot tub or the window

air conditioner units he bought. The hot tub rotted into the ground.

Your situation - no paperwork, no serial number written down.

Hard to tell what tractor you may have sold or he may have bought.

Make sure the cash is real so you know his intentions were good.

Then if you can't contact him, and I wanted it gone, I'd sell it to

someone else and give him his money back if he returns.

No need to put a hardship on him for something he didn't get.

If it caused you a real loss, discuss that with him if/when he

comes back. If he had a legit reason for not showing up, he'd

probably be happier to get part of his money back then none.

Today's Featured Article - Gatherin of the Orange - by Rick Nikolich. In July of 1998 I was talking to fellow Allis Chalmers collector Mike Schilling about the annual "Gathering of The Orange" AC show coming up in August of 1999. He got this wild idea that we should get a convoy of AC tractors and drive them from Charlotte, Michigan 105 miles to LaGrange, Indiana. ... [Read Article]
