If you get 6 months or so out of it, it's still worth it.
Spent 100 on a repair to my old water heater 6 years ago (I was renting the house out at the time and lived 3 hours away, otherwise I'd fixed it myself), thermocouple was replaced and the tank is still working (knock on my head, er wood) at 22 years old.
