Your story about the lab reminds me of a black lab a friend used to have. My friend got the young dog from an animal shelter and the dog's previous owner must have driven the dog around in his pickup cab. Anytime a pickup door was open for more than a minute that lab would jump in the truck and sit patiently in the passenger seat. It surprised most visitors the first time it happened to them. That dog could not pass a pond, stream or or water tank without jumping into the water.
