The way I understand it, it's the "likes" that they are most interested in. If you "like" something on facebook, and turn out to be gullible, they are even more interested in you. You'll be more apt to pass along some fake news to all of your "friends", a percentage of whom will also be gullible, and who will then pass it along to all of their "friends" too, and on and on and on. Because the gullible "friends" receive this fake news from their gullible "friends", it automatically lends a false creditability to the story. A lie has wings.
