Only my opinion, but I think many of those 5-8 cent boars are used in pepperoni .
Just looked online..... $2.28 for 3.5 ounces of pepperoni . So that is $10.42 per pound .
So let's go buy a 400 lb. boar for 8 cents a pound (32 bucks), say he dresses out at 70% (280 lbs. hanging weight), then say there is another 50 lbs. of bone waste. That leaves 230 pounds of boar meat that cost us 32 bucks. Now that boar meat left is at 14 cents per pound.
Do you think we could pay the butchering bill and processing costs and still make some cash ? Surely we could turn that boar into pepperoni for 600 bucks don't you think ?
Now we've spent 632 bucks on that old boar. Let's sell him for pepperoni ! 230 x $10.42 = $2396 , subtract our 632 , and we just made 1764 bucks on that old boar free and clear.
