good morning bruce, I often see the 510 ih series drills here on kijiji for sale, any where from $1500. to $5000. your looks like it has both the grain and hay seed boxes. when my neighbor seeded down our back field he planted 60% alfalfa and 40% timothy, and it has been a battle to get it off dry! when he cut it with his haybine and put it in big swaths we lost it, turned black and stunk to high heaven, I started cutting it with my sickle mower 3 years ago and just dropping it flat, let it dry and cure and then rake and bale the same day. that has worked great and we got the hay off no problem. the alfalfa/timothy mix is seems to be a lot more than 60% in places and when you put your hand under the swaths from the haybine it came out soaking wet. now a question bruce what would be a good horse mixture to seed down? I am looking at getting a 5 acre field this year that hasn't been worked up in over 25 years, was planning to plow it down in the fall and then summer follow it to kill all the thistle (loaded with thistles and weeds) and then replant the following spring.
