Oats should be comming off now. When was farming many a time had to switch from the wheat to the oats before they went down and back to finnish the weat. And I never heard of oat hay. It always went into the livestock feed. And yes 2-4D was used many a time. Early when weeds were just showing and later if they got away from you up to a week before harvest. Yes the tire tracks you would lose some but not neer what you would loose letting them go to seed. Now that was broadleaves and never had grass type weed problem so don't know what would have been then and have no idea what is out there now. But there is no excuse for weeds to be left to grow in either wheat or oats.
