The first couple years I was in the eastern Idaho desert I couldn’t get over the sight of straw bales being used for roof insulation on potato cellars. The straw bales were on top of the roof exposed to the weather. They would throw sand on the bales to seal the spaces between bales. These bales would last for years. No need to explain what would happen to those straw bales here in Iowa.
