Apparently JD is saying that buyers are only "licensees" who are allowed unlimited use of the machine, but since its still "owned" by JD, the farmer has to call JD for repairs and can't fix it himself. Some tech-savvy guys are "hacking" their own machines to they can diagnose and repair them. One guy pointed to his combine and said "It costs me a thousand bucks every time that thing is put on a trailer and taken in for repairs, plus I can't afford to be down for several days during harvest".
