When I was in the boat and outboard motor repair business back in the 1970's and 1980's someone brought one to my shop and then wondered why I couldn't get parts for it.
That was what was always amusing. Someone who wouldn't think of driving a five year old car would bring in a thirty+ year old off brand outboard motor they'd dug out of someone's shed and then get upset if I told them we'd both be money ahead if I didn't touch it.
Something else I never understood was if an outboard wasn't running right, the owner would always insist it acted like the timing was off. Even with a smaller motor where the timing was built in and there was no way to change it, they'd still insist it was the timing. That business was always interesting.
