YES it's certainly "possible" It may be a true 12 volt genny or it may be an old 6 volt using a 12 volt voltage regulator which I did successfully. NOTE don't anyone have a calf I'm ONLY saying it worked, its NOT perfect engineering proper and YES a properly polarized genny can work at either polarity. If working at fast RPM it will raise battery voltage to at least 13 or more subject to battery and genny and VR. If it aint broke don't fix it lol
