Did you ever give thought to a ft. crank mounted hyd pump?? like they use on cement mixers and plow trucks?? That woulld save time looking for a gear drive pump set up and you then could add any size GPM pump your heart desires in a open center style. Keeping the engine Hp. in the 350-400 range should not tax the rest of the drive line to bad. Like you said extending the frame and hood would take the big amount of time. Myself i am to the point i am getting to old for this . Last repower we did was and 8.3 into a 2150 Oliver with ft assist and that one took some redesign of the oil pan , that made for one peppy tractor . Had it been a 2 wheel drive it ould have been a drop in deal and just make up four engine mounts.
