Mercurochrome was the go-to antiseptic back when I was a young lad in the early 50's ..... any kind of a cut or abrasion then mom got out the little bottle with a glass rod applicator attached to the rubber lid. Mercurochrome A proprietary formulation of merbromin, which was once popular as a topical antiseptic. Mercurochrome was deemed ineffective for that purpose and removed from the US market in 1998; it continues to be widely used in other countries.
