When we bought one of the 4440’s in the late 80’s it came with metal front fenders. I have always assumed they were a dealer option - they have the Deere logo on the back side facing the cab. They are really slick - they mount to the steering arm and have diamond plate flat steel tops and a step down the back where the mud flap bolts on. They make working on it and fueling it really easy.
This time of the year I always find myself wishing the ih 886 had some to keep the mud from the pens from flying all over the cab when I chore. Did IH ever have that type front fender available as an option? I tried searching for them but didn’t come up with anything. I’ve never seen another two wheel drive Deere of that era have front fenders either, though.
