I got to know several of the engineers that worked on that project. Their common sense and practical knowledge made that series be as successful as it was. That is what is missing in today's deigns. Almost zero common sense and little practical knowledge. Then company management that looks only at short term profits.
Our country was made great by people making the BEST they could not the cheapest they can. Just about everything today is made to only last a short period of time so you have to buy it again in a few years.
Think of how many things you bought in times long gone that you still use? Then try and do the same thing to products bought in the last ten years or so? Not many of the "new" stuff lasting very long for me.
