Hmmm.. I think Not MAX throttle..like up against the governor ? IMHO... That's a very bad place to be. I like to run the engine in the range between the rpm stated for max torque on the 'low end' and the stated rpm for max HP on the 'high end'. This should be somewhere near the 'sweet' spot for the engine. As stated by another poster, for running PTO implements.. keep the engine at the rpm's calculated for the proper PTO speed. I also think most tractor designers would gear so the 540 PTO speed was in a very 'comfortable' operating range for the engine ! Stay close to that rpm and your engine should be happy. bb
