I've been curious about them myself, but haven't heard a ton of good about them.
To start with, they are not at all related to the "Duramax" series in the 2500-3500 trucks. The true D-max's, LB7/LLY/LBZ,etc are all an Isuzu built motor, that GM has named Duramax for their own sales.
Due to the 6.6 Duramax's being SO popular, they are simply coining off of the name on the minimax trucks. They are NOT Isuzu motors, they are some other Chinese built diesels. Also, I've heard the they are experience premature front end failure due to the weight of the motor, and that the front and rear end's are not built nearly heavy enough to handle the power the engine is capable of.
I would say if you're looking at a work truck, go with a 1500 series. A 5.3LS motor will run 200,000 miles no problem, and is a simple cheap motor to rebuild, and would probably easily compete with the minimax.
