Kermit, I bought a '95 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 new with the 360 V8 and auto trans and have only had two problems--transmission went out at 117,000 miles and springs are very weak. I had an independent shop overhaul the tranny because it was out of warranty. The mechanic said I was lucky to get that much mileage out of it and that he regularly sees them come in under 100,000 miles. Said it wasn't limited to Dodge because with modern design and components, big 3 allhad problems. I have been thinking of trading up to a diesel and heavier duty truck, but have the same quandry you have. I understand that the Dodge with the Cummins diesel has a beefed up tranny standard. I've talked to a number of Ford owners and most of them are unhappy as well, so guess I'll keep on collecting opinions.
