Been a long time GM fan, but now I don't know..Here's my story. In 1999 bought a 1998 Chev 1/2t 4x4 ext cab Silverado with 9999 mi on it. The first winter I had it the engine would knock cold. It would have to be 20-25 deg F for the knock. Took it to dealer and they put 40W oil in it and left it to cold soak over night. They heard it the next day. They say it is normal for 350 engines to "piston slap" when cold and it is not bad enough to fix. It had 16,700 mi on it. It is now out of warranty with 35,xxx mi and it now knocks at 45-50 deg F. It now seems the 2002 trucks are being designed with tighter clearances for longer engine life. See the truck brochures for yourself. I make it a point to tell one person a day how chevy stands behind their iron.
