Why are tractors so complex today

I once visited the depot for the official importers of a minority tractor make the top brass told me their tractors were great as they were no nonsense tractors and that meant high reliability and good second hand values. Just what farmers always suspected! I then met the chief marketing man who showed me the latest high specification tractor when i said i wanted the low spec version he reacted angrily and almost called me an backward fool (but in a marketing way) and didnt want to mention it. I would be interested to hear of any sales techniques which could be used to sell me tractors i dont need.
