Could have sworn I posted this last night but maybe I fell asleep and shut down the laptop before hitting post. Anyway, I finally got around to replacing the rear wheel bearing on the 52 Merc. Turns out the old bearing was not so bad but seems like the housing it sits in has some wear and that allows a little up and down play. So I tried out a J.B. Weld product called "Steel Stick". I don't consider I got a very good application but its all together now and I'll check it for play after driving a few miles to see if it improved anything.
