The IDPTO driven gear is not going direct to the flywheel . It is driven off the IDPTO inputshaft and gear from above that goes into the pressure plate . The driven gear and the PTO DRIVE shaft that your looking at has a bearing inft of it that is a taper bearing that is suppose to hold the driven gear tight up against the snap ring your looking at by shimming the preload of the ft. bearing and the bearing retainer cap . I am not going to get into the propper set up of the shaft so get a book and read up on this . This shaft runs on back thru the speed transmission low hollow shaft and into the ft. of the range transmission and when doing a split that lower shaft will stay with the range section when you remove the speed transmission and that gear will come off the shaft then and you let it drop out the bottom cover . Usually you do not have a problem with that shaft or loose fitting gear unless you have a problem feather on back at the rear bearing or someone shimmed it wrong sometime in the past. So since i am not there to see for myself i really can't say what is going one or where your problem is .
