My Dad worked in the foundry circa 1949 on Como Ave. It was terribly dirty and cold in the winter. From other workers I knew who worked at Lake Street and Hopkins after White Motors gained ownership of MM, the factory was a terrible mess. Workers were paid by the piece and had no time to clean up their machines, and no one hired to clean up the huge mounds of shavings. This info relayed by a few of the old timers who worked on the factory floor. I expect the reality was that there was some clean up, but way less than when MM owned the company prior to 1963.
