It's funny how things are in different parts of the country. I'm in New England and most of the Dodge diesels around here are privately owned - not commercially owned. I know a few guys in the construction business and they all have Ford diesels. They wouldn't even consider a Dodge. Some have had them and went back to Ford. I have a camp in northern New Hampshire and drive on 93 north for hours and all the construction work being done on the highway is 90% Ford diesels. I work for a Fire Department in Massachusetts and they went to Ford diesels in approximately 1988. The mechanic has never torn a motor apart to fix anything internal and I don't beleive he's ever touched an injection pump. The item that goes most of the time are the alternators and that's because they have gazillion lights! There is a big towing company down the road from my house and he tried a couple of Dodge diesels in the mid 90's and said he'd never use them again. He has all Fords. On the other hand, a guy I work with has an early Dodge diesel and has plowed snow with it for years and has never had any trouble with it and loves it. Never had either truck, but have driven the Ford diesel in the ambulances. Good luck. In my opinion, you really can't go wrong with either choice.
