I suspect that your replacement boot was defective or not new, to begin with, it may have been 30 yrs old, may be made in a foreign country. China used vegetable oil in manufacturing electrical wire insulation which results in mice eating it for food. Who knows for sure. I bought my replacements on eBay. $35 for two. I was not able to loosen those bolts, tried every way I knew -- impact gun, extended lever, mild heat---- in any case I did some "shade treen innovation" it is working 3 mo so far --- 3 How did you loosen the bolts on your tractor?
