The first "tractor" was built by the HartParr Co. because they invented the word or coined the phrase as it were. Therefore-anything built prior to that was a self propelled "something" but was NOT a "tractor" . eg. Steam engines that were self propelled were called steam traction engines,the first carriages with a motor were called a horseless carriage,Not a car, etc.etc.etc.
