Larry, from what you said about the tractor just sorta' rocks when you let out the clutch, it sounds like the clutch. It happened to me while plowing with my JD model B. Try this: Jack up one rear wheel (block it, chock another wheel) and see if the tractor operates normally with one wheel raised and free to spin. If it drives that wheel under these conditions, it is most likely a clutch disk. My guess is that is was slipping for a while, before the sudden stop happened. This might locate the problem. Hope this helps.
