When I worked in manufacturing three things were important: Safety, Safety and Safety. We went to extraordinary lengths to make all the equipment safe for the operators and technicians. Well, some of the equipment was transferred to Singapore and safety took a back seat. I was in Singapore doing a assembly line transfer about a year after the first lines were moved. What a change. The equipment was being run with out the guard interlocks in place and there were holes cut in the guarding. The holes were to allow the operators to clear equipment jams with out having to open the doors. In Asia if someone gets hurt they just get a new someone. Seems that life if cheap over there.
