I think it's usually about 3-1 3 internal combustion hp = 1 electrical hp. Then you see an air compressor rated at 3hp. that's driven by a 1hp. elec. motor. I'm guessing that working along the same line of thought!! Further- a new 1hp.elec. motor won't do the same work as an old heavy weight. Had an old heavy weight on my 2cy. compressor and ran it at 150lbs. for years. It died a few years ago, so I bought a new one and put it on with the same size pulley. It would kick out the breaker at about 125lb. Newer is NOT better!!!
