I was dumping broken concrete & dirt over the side of a gully with the backoe/loader. Went downhill toward the fenceline and stepped on the brakes. Both pedals went down to the stop and I just kept going. Dropped the bucket and plowed through the fenceline to the edge of a 30'drop off. Things had gotten fairly steep at that point and the rig wouldn't back up the hill. I reached around and dropped the outriggers to stabilize the situation, then used the hoe to pull myself back up to flatter ground where the rig would back up. Now it was dark, starting to rain, and there were cows in the field, so I had fenceline to repair. Did some serious cussing and headshaking over that one. Later on I found out that my Uncle had dumped the same backhoe in the same gully years before. That wreck had torn the whole front end out and he was lucky to walk away. (I'd wondered what the large repaired section in the front axle was about) Needless to say, I don't go down that hill anymore. I've figured out that wheels + steep ground don't mix.
