I agree that wiring the coils is series is wrong. The coils should be wired in parallel if both are actually twelve volt coils. Unless the distributor has been changed, all four spark plugs will fire every other revolution, like tow two spark plugs did before. Since both terminals fire at the same time on each coil, spark plug wires could (theoretically) be run from any coil terminal to any plug. I will defer to someone who has actual experience with a setup like yours.
