Nothing on the tractor except for the generator and regulator are sensitive to voltage or ground. Odds are the charging system isn't working anyway, and it will be more economical to convert the tractor over to 12V with an alternator than it would be to fix the generator system if it needs anything more than wiring.
Put a battery in it and give it a crank. Just be ready to disconnect and have a fire extinguisher as it is very possible that critters have gotten to the wiring.
