Thanks for the update. As myself and others indicated before YES you could toss the old 6 volt coil and external ballast and replace it with a coil labeled 12 Volt (NO external ballast required) which will work fine, HOWEVER that doesn't allow for any ballast and ballast by pass when cranking circuit which can improve cold weather starting, although in most situations you will likely be fine. As Jim and myself have pointed out for years and he did below, your new 12 Volt labeled (NO external ballast required) coil more then likely DOES NOT HAVE AN INTERNAL STAND ALONE DISCRETE "RESISTOR" tucked away inside the can. Sure such coils were made and used in some older automobiles, but I never saw one in an old farm tractor.
