John Deere actually made their own snowmobiles from 71'-84'.Polaris bought them out in 84'. They were made up at the lawn&garden plant in Horicon,WI. I have a 73' 500. Parts for the 440 CCW engine are obsolete(pistons, rings exc.) So I made a adapter plate and made a Cayuna 430 fit. Still hand start but it starts on the second pull. Running good now. I run 93 octane& Citgo 2 cycle oil. 40:1.
