I can not tell you where it goes around the push rod. I can tell you that it needs to be parallel with the starter when tight. When you put the starter up into position the cable lays along the top of the starter so it is not pinched in anyway. Also if someone has the wrong end on the starter end of the cable it makes the job more fun too.
