There are many ways of repairing engine blocks that are usually cheaper than a new block or engine, which usually is a VERY MAJOR COST! The cures range from welding, epoxing, sleeving etc, Much can depend on where and how bad the crack is. Whole chunks in the side of water jackets have been replaced, and many cylinders have been sleeved when the crack was a problem there, so much depends on how much time or money you wish to spend.
