Supporting comment from experience: Reason was the exhaust passages had to go through the block to get out and even with the dual water pumps and dual sets of hoses, back in the 50's when I was growing up, cracks between the exhaust valve and cylinder were a common problem whereby a local machine shop had a waiting list of customers wanting their engines repaired.
Now what you can do with the N to increase cooling requirements....if needed, can't help you there.....maybe change the diameter of some pulleys making the pumps and the fan run faster.
