Cats can be very protective of their turf. We have a cat that has chased black bear out of our back yard. More than once. When we had three males I saw them looking around the corner of the house one day. I walked up to them and when I got to the the corner all three took out after a German Sheperd and chased it down the drive , 1/4 of a mile, until they came to the road. Also, some cats are just crazy. Larry
