Bill, My 2007 GMC 1500 was sold as a work truck. It's basic no frills truck. No carpet, no cassette, crank windows, No club cab, no extended cab, no 4x4, a full size 4x8 bed to hold a sheet of plywood.
So I don't think a compact 4x4 is considered a work truck unless Toyota and GMC have different definition of work truck.
If I were to buy another new work truck, I would look at MPG, a 4x8 bed and towing ability. I think most 4x8 beds eliminate the possibility of club and extended cabs.
After leaving the dealer, I dropped my 2007 GMC off at Z-tech to have a sprayed bed liner and undercoating before I took it home . I would do the same on next truck. geo Did you undercoat your 1999?
