You really want a T-5 transmission- its a 5 speed, basically a 4 speed with overdrive- Older vehicles were always limited in top speed, and using an overdrive transmission should let you keep your present rear end (probably a 4.11 or thereabouts) with a 15 to 20% boost in top speed. You'll want a T-5 out of an S-10 pickup, so the shifter is far enough forward to clear the seat. T-5's out of Mustangs and Camaros have the shifter so far back it will end up in the middle of the seat of your pickup. My Speedway catalog is about 10 years old, but has a Chev T-5 to Ford or Merc flathead adapter- part No. 916-28928. Website is speedwaymotors dot com.
