My grandfather bought 2 White half tracks after WWII as surplus. He got them to use lumbering, figuring they would be great skidders in the woods. Unfortunately they couldn't be maneuvered tight around trees, got stuck often and caused alot of stand damage. He parked them for a few years, then donated them to a volunteer fire dept. near Posen, Mi. to be used as brush fire fighters. That never came to fruition and they sat for a few more years. Finally in the early 1960's they tried to give them back to my grandfather and when he declined they had them cut up for scrap. Those two trucks combined probably didnt have more than 100 miles on them.
