Cannot help you with the gear. My former employer has two V30 trenchers. Both use the GM 10SI alternator. There should be a mounting bracket on the right side of the frame for the alternator. There should be a small pulley just behind the front shroud on the engine, just behind the distributor, that drives the alternator. You can use a 1 wire alternator or a 3 wire. If using a 3 wire the #2 wire (usually red)from the pigtail that plugs into the alternator can loop to the output terminal on the back of the alternator. The #1 wire from the pigtail (usually white) goes to switched side of ignition. It should have a diode in the white wire with the band pointing toward the alternator. The diode should be rated minimum 3 Amps 50 Volts. If equipped with an ammeter, the output wire (10 AWG) should go to the load side of the ammeter.

But, I want to talk about my tractor! We didn't even own a lawnmower, and all of a sudden we had enough grass to feed all the starving children of the bovine world. Naturally, I talked
