I have been grading my backyard with some dirt that I pulled out behind the barn to build a trailer parking pad there. Got up this morning to about a 2" flood in the back yard. We got a lot of rain last night. In only a couple hours the water was down to a few large puddles, but that AIN'T good enough. The first thing I did was to go around to all my culverts,5, and pull leaves away that were restricting flow. I started with the one the crosses under the road 400 feet in front of the house and worked upstream from there. Also, the land behind me (that I used to own) drains toward me, and always has, but would cross to the adjacent property, a park in the northeast corner of my yard. That area was a bit clogged up with leaves and grass. Then, I went out with the back blade and did some grading using the water to identify high spots that were blocking the flow. Being very wet I did track up some of the new grade but that is ok. I can rework that when things dry out. We are expecting some heavy weather tonight and probably a lot of rain. I will re-examine the grades then and make some adjustments. There is one area that I need to cut a little swale to move the water but I did not want to cut up the surrounding sod. Just playtime during our "stay at home". Your playtime may vary! LOL
