Most important tool you need is a grinder. Grind the rust back both sides and down into the crack as best you can. Use your 6011, will work fine. You
will need multiple passes with your little welder, and assume you have an appropriate size rod like 3/32. If you have a torch to add some heat to the
steel before you weld it will help also.

All that said, I bet you could ignore the crack and it will make no difference for your uses.
