For the current year my assessment went up $50k with the proposed tax burden going up accordingly. The tax office sends out the assessments in the spring, giving you time to protest before incorporation in the fall.
I protested and not only got it corrected but also got more knocked off due to the property amenities getting older. As it turned out an "intern" did my original tax estimates based on Google maps she referenced. My protest interview consisted of the intern and her supervisor. She is now more understanding of the tax structuring for 40+ year old farms vs the new brick mansions in urban areas! Actually, it was a very pleasant experience with respect shown from both sides.
