It's a good thing you drained that crap out, I would put a couple of gallons of diesel in it and rinse it again! I wouldn't want anything like that in my injector pump! About using air to push the fuel out, it will work, but if anything goes wrong I would want a valve right at the tank to shut off. I think an electric pump would be better and safer.
