Hello RP welcome to YT! I am attaching a link to show you an example of a banjo fitting. The bolt is hollow and cross drilled to allow fluid flow. The part with the hole looks sort of like a banjo thus the name. I am just guessing that 2x4 meant that the intake side of his hydraulic pump had a banjo type fitting and was leaking air so it could not draw fluid up to it to prime, purely my speculation. Another poster ask the question if your system is ..self contained.. which means does it have a pump on the engine that only supplies fluid for the power steering. By searching for a replacement PS pump for your tractor that appears to be the case. Can you describe what you are referring to as ..broke the steering shaft..? Is this shaft one that slides in and out of the cylinder? If so that is generally referred to as a ..ram.. I assume you removed a part of the system to replace it, have you tried loosening the fittings that you disconnected and the operating the unit to bleed trapped air out? That would be my first recommendation. If that doesn’t seem to work I would secondly suggest jacking up the front of the tractor so it can move the steering freely, this is also in an attempt to free trapped air in the system. As a disclaimer I have only been within 3 ft of an operating Belarus tractor one time and have never worked on one. Just giving you options from general repair practices.
