Because Canada went metric like nearly all the rest of the world in the 1970’s. I was in school and had already learned the Standard measure system, inches, feet , yards , miles. Ounces, pint, quart and gallon. The when in my teens came metric measure, I was lost and have in many ways never fully adopted the metric system. I am constantly converting metric measurements like 21Celsius into 71 Fahrenheit to understand how warm it is. Only a handful of countries around the globe use the same measure as the USA. And talk to a US service man, he will understand metric, doctors and scientists, pharmacist and they will measure in metric. Guns have cartridges measured in millimeters. So many things in the USA are measured in metric also, just not a lot of consumer goods, like lumber, and gas/diesel.
