It's not often that I'll have to track a whitetail deer, I do my very best to make a well placed shot in the vitals. This year, the 1st one I took, wiped out the lungs, but the deer did run into the old and somewhat wide hedge row, say 75 feet or so. Afternoon hunt and shot taken not long before dark, light was fading. Initially no sign of blood, but I knew I hit where I shot so I kept making a sweep until it dawned on me she did take the heavily traveled game trail. This one was right about 200 yards going by landmarks I have measured to establish known range distances in the field I hunt.

I always keep a fully charged LED flashlight in my hunting jacket, it's from the land of almost right, off of ebay, XML-T6. It zooms to focus into a small square, but can also go to a wide flood. Bright white light against mostly tan brown vegetation, leaves. I spotted the blood trail easily with this and thankfully I was right, my shot was well placed and the deer was not far in front of me. I thought this light was very good for finding the blood trail. It takes (2) 3.7 re-chargable batteries.. I bought a different LED flashlight at the hardware store and that one has nice clip with a 2nd light on the side. This was indispensable to field dress the animal, as it hangs from your clothing and I find is better than a head type lamp. I'll haul my carcass back to the house, hang, gut, catch the innards in a large wash pan, then may pull the hide off with a hitch onto it and my tractor hooked up to it, pulls right off.

Ironically, the 2nd tag I filled, decent size buck which was taken down with a head shot, about 100 yards away. Thankfully no tracking. On occasion it has happened and I vehemently hate when it does, always try to make sure I am on target, practice my shooting etiquette. I often times draw on a target and just practice my breathing, so I am ready, even if the last time I shot was a year ago. It works to that end, but the rifle being sighted certainly is the main thing.

Well anyways, I think the white LED light is pretty good for picking up on a blood trail, interesting to see what other hunters think, tough situation sometimes when tracking. Here, your kill will not last long if you do not find it soon after it is shot, coyotes will tear it apart in no time and devour same.

Today's Featured Article - Fordson Model N: Field Service Operations and Lubrication - by Anthony West. The daily or weekly servicing of any vehicle is of the utmost importance, and in days gone by when our favorite tractors were doing an important and Commercially vital job on the farm, these service operations would make a major difference to the running costs and economy of the farm. This being so, it surprises me to see how many enthusiasts attending rallies, shows etc, seem to be unaware of the importance of this constant attention. Possibly the modern machine with its 6,000 mile or even once ... [Read Article]
